Richard Horne - Head Chef and Owner of Wells Cafe and Bistro

Richard Horne

Richard started his career in 1986 as a Commis Chef at the 2 Michelin star restaurant The Box Tree, in his home town of Ilkley. Whilst there, he was under the expert tutelage of Head Chef Edward Denny.

After a 3 year apprenticeship he was offered a Junior Chef position at the renowned Little Grove Hotel in Jersey which gave him another level of experience.

Returning home, he took the position of Second Chef to the much admired Billy Reed at the Oats Restaurant in Skipton. This offered him an incredible opportunity to work closely with one of the country's top chefs.

Then, after 2 years as Sous Chef for the chairman of ICI in his private conference centre at Warren house, Richard established a successful working relationship with local restaurateur, Chris Monkman. Firstly, as his Sous Chef at Monkman's on the Grove, then as Head chef at Monkman's Bistro at Pool Court. Finally, a different challenge as Head Chef at The Fleece in Addingham.

After 12 years with Chris, Richard was offered Head Chef position at the Devonshire Arms Brasserie, where he worked until he was headhunted to be the Executive Chef of Escape's 2 restaurants in Ilkley and Skipton.

In 2008 Richard finally realised his dream of running his own Cafe and Bistro, serving locally sourced ingredients, freshly cooked to the highest standards.
